There are three different privacy level options available, allowing you to customize the visibility of a domain’s contact information in the public WHOIS directory. Turning on privacy will hide all contact information for the domain and replace it with details from our privacy service provider, Domains by Proxy®. Limited privacy will show some contact information, including the registrant organization, state, and country, but no other details will be visible. Turning off privacy will show all contact information for the domain, which could be used for phishing or spam, even if privacy is turned back on. You can change your privacy level at any time in your Connect Hosting account, but if your domain has domain protection, you will need to verify your identity before making changes.

Top-level domains (TLDs) are essential to any website’s identity. Let’s take a quick look at some common TLDs:

– .com: This TLD is widely used by businesses for general purposes.
– .org: commonly used by non-profit organizations and trade associations.
– .net: initially intended for organizations involved in networking technologies but now available for general use.
– .edu: designated exclusively for educational institutions within the United States.
– .gov: reserved for government entities within the United States.
– .mil: exclusive to the United States military.
– .info: an unrestricted domain used for informational sites.
– .biz: intended for business or commercial use as an alternative to .com.
– .aero: reserved for the air-transport industry.
– .asia: intended for companies, organizations, and individuals in the Asia-Pacific region.
– .name: intended for personal use, often individuals’ names.
– .coop: reserved for cooperative associations.

In addition to these top-level domains, there are also country code TLDs (ccTLDs) such as .uk (United Kingdom), .ca (Canada), and .au (Australia), which are generally used by entities within those countries.

Migrate Your Domain to Connect Hosting

Initiate your domain migration to Connect Hosting and retain your existing registration period while receiving an additional year of registration at no extra cost. The transfer includes your domain only; however, our knowledgeable Guides are on hand to assist with relocating your email and website services to Connect Hosting as well.

Please note that specific transfer guidelines apply at Connect Hosting for domains with extensions such as .uk, .ca, .eu, .es, .se, and .au.

Important: Domain transfers are not permitted within 60 days following a new registration, a previous transfer, or modifications to contact details, especially if a 60-day lock was enacted by the current registrant during the approval of those changes.

Pre-Transfer Checklist: To ensure a seamless transfer, complete the following steps with your current registrar before initiating the migration to Connect Hosting:

1. Unlock Your Domain: This is essential to enable the transfer from your current registrar to Connect Hosting.
2. Obtain Authorization Code: Often referred to as the auth code, EPP code, transfer code, or transfer key, your current registrar will provide this to you.
3. Confirm Contact Information: Ensure the domain name’s administrative contact details are accurate, as they may be used for communication throughout the transfer process.

Purchasing the Transfer: Ready to proceed? Here’s how to purchase the transfer and start the move to your Connect Hosting account:

1. Access Your Account: Log in to your Connect Hosting account or create a new one if necessary. Assistance required? Retrieve your username or password here.
2. Initiate Transfer: Visit the Connect Hosting transfer page, search for your domain, and follow the prompts. If your domain is already with Connect Hosting, you’ll be presented with an option for an account transfer.
3. Verify Unlock Status: A green status bar will confirm if your domain is unlocked. You can update this status by selecting ‘Refresh Status’.
4. Enter Authorization Code: Input the code provided by your current registrar. Mistakes can be corrected later in your account settings.
5. Continue with Transfer: Once both unlock and auth code sections are confirmed with green status bars, select ‘Continue.’ You may be automatically advanced to the next step if you’ve refreshed the status.
6. Domain Protection: Choose your preferred level of Domain Protection and add it to your cart. If you opt out, simply select ‘No Thanks.’
7. Complete Checkout: Finalize the checkout process to begin the official transfer of your domain.

The transfer process typically takes between 5 to 7 days. Should any issues arise, we will notify you via email, and you can monitor the transfer status directly within your Connect Hosting account at any time.
